Breakfast by the Sea

Here is a cardboard boat. The wooden post is set into what I think is called a disk blade - it is heavy, and you can lift the post in and out. The boat also has a board in the bottom to make it more sturdy. I didn't make it, so I don't know exactly how it was made. The felt on the ground is probably not meant to be water - I just found it in storage and tried it out. Could use some work, but I like the idea. What I learned from it, though, is that if you sew on the hook side of velcro, it sticks to carpet and keeps it in place. I would like to figure out a way to add waves to the water, maybe using a technique sort of like on this pillow here.

Bible, Bible Book

The plastic sleeves are open on the top so that you can put in different pictures.

Oh Friend, Do You Love Jesus?

This is from Ikat Bag. She doesn't provide a heart pattern, so I included one here. I like how she did it better than me, but am still happy with it. In the current program, the children wave these around while singing the song "Oh Friend Do You Love Jesus?", but they could be used for many songs. I want to make Ikat Bag's sun wands as well.

You can get sticks for the wands in packs of 20, I think, from dollar stores. Of course you can just buy doweling from home improvement stores instead.

Fish

Cut one of felt. Sew on white and black circles for the eye (I just put an eye on one side of the felt because I'm lazy). Using a scallop stitch, create fins on the fish. Pin this piece on to another piece of the felt and sew together, except for the back fin end of the fish. Cut out. Stuff. Sew fin lines into the back fin. This will keep the stuffing inside. Cut a scallop pattern into the end of the fish.

I just started working on the props for the Breakfast by the Sea program. Next are the fish!

Tree

I've been thinking of how I could make a tree for Beginners. Here is a fabulous one:

Brooklyn General

I'd like to make it a bit simpler, but like the idea of using old sweaters to make the bark.

Noah's Beard

Following are the patterns and pictures of the things I made for the Noah's Ark program. What I didn't have was a really nice Noah's ark, but I've heard that some people have made some boats that rock and that the kids can climb inside. I would love to see pictures of these, if anyone has some.

The beards were for the kids to pretend that they were Noah (for the song about Noah being a friend of God). ITo make this beard, I cut two pieces of felt slightly bigger than the pattern and ironed them on to a stiff piece of two-side fusible interfacing. As shown in the picture, I cut a rectangle of felt approximate 1" x 3", and sewed four lines in four corners to hold the stick in place (just to minimize the lines that show up on the front of the beard). Picture of this coming soon!

Felt Food

A lot of programs have food in them, particularly fruit and vegetables. In the Noah's Ark program, Noah and his family need to pack things for their time on the ark - food would be great! In Breakfast by the Sea program - the title says it all. Of course, the Creation story involved food. So, I am going to be posting some links to patterns for felt food over the next while. You can find these on the side bar of links. Some are ridiculously difficult and others are quite reasonable to make.

I would like to add some rain drops coming from the cloud. Perhaps the cloud should be grey. Pattern to follow.

Food for the animals

These are supposed to be feed sacks to put on the ark for the animals. I used vinyl in the opening, and filled with lentils. Will add pattern soon...
